I am seeking news on these films.

Cary Grant Singapore Sue (1932) (uncredited) .... First sailor
Cary Grant Fashions in Love 1936
Kay Francis Illusion (1929) .... Zelda Paxton


My Kay Francis collection is complete with the exception of the 1929 film
Illusion Kay Francis (1929) .... Zelda Paxton
Apparently only the sound track exists however I have heard that UCLA archives have a complete copy.

Any info on any of these 3 films would be welcome.

UCLA does in fact have a 35mm nitrate of Illusion; presumably this title was among those sold to Universal for syndication in 1958, so they might have safety material on the film.

UCLA also has 16mm prints of "Singapore Sue" and "Fashions in Love".
"Fashions" was a retrospective subject showing love scenes from earlier movies, so the Cary Grant footage is probably archival (especially since the UCLA description says that Mae West appears with him). "Singapore Sue" can be found on this Kino compilation:

A Chinese Crosby imitator in this one-reel short. There is also a racist remark that I think is utttered by Cary Grant. A Paramount short that went to those UM&M TV Corp people who cut all the titles before sending them to syndication.

I have a 16mm print of Fashions in Love (1936), and I added the film to the IMDB a few months ago. The film is a bunch of clips of love scenes from the movies, mostly silent films. The Cary Grant footage is a scene with Mae West from I'm No Angel.

The most notable thing about this short is that it has the only surviving scenes of Shadows of Paris (1924) with Pola Negri, which is otherwise lost.

Thank you for this post. I thought I had all of Cary's films with the exception of 'Singapore Sue' until this popped up so when you say you added it to IMDB, I am assuming you mean you added the listing for the short and that it is not available for download.

Thank you for this message. I wonder if the film (Illusion) will ever be made available to the public. I am quite interested in it.

Fashions in Love was part of the Paramount TV package. Blackhawk sold 8mm and 16mm film prints of it from the mid-1960s until the early 1970s. It is probably still under copyright, and it is not available for download as far as I know.

LC has the original camera negs (or very early generation preprint) on Singapore Sue and Fashions in Love. I've seen their 35mm print Singapore Sue at a screening and it looked quite nice.
