Life Is A Dream In Cinema

Post by Danny » Sat Oct 01, 2011 7:40 am

The DVD documentary on Pola Negri keeps interesting me. But the product description is a bit confusing:

Product Description
As film evolves and the gap continues to grow from the days of silent film, so does the memory fade of where it all began. Pola Negri: Life is a Dream in Cinema is an eye opening documentary of classic cinema that revives the life of a legend that might be otherwise lost to the silence of film. The special Pola Negri poster/DVD package includes a beautiful poster of Pola Negri and a free DVD of the enlightening documentary Pola Negri: Life is a Dream in Cinema by Mariusz Kotowski

"Free DVD"? I thought this WAS a DVD. Is this worth buying? And is there a better price anywhere else than the $25.00 listed on Amazon?

Looks like it's either a $25 poster with a free DVD, or a $25 DVD with a free poster.

But no, I don't know anything about either one...

I suspect it's a legal evasion- there is probably copyright material on the DVD which makes it illegal to sell- so it's a "free" gift with the poster. It's like the old burlesque racket: "The management will not allow us to sell THE SINS OF PARIS in this theater- but with every box of candy a copy will be included for free"

I see it listed as a paperback book on used.addall.com, which is a professional
bookseller's database for rare books. It doesn't mention the DVD.

Some time ago now, a Pola Negri documentary was mentioned, I believe. on these pages. The source was place in Texas and they had some other DVDs & CDs of interest. I was in contact and go an e-mail that they would e-mail me next Tuesday. The trouble was they did not say which next Tuesday it was and I did sent a follow-up e-mail but no response. I was prepared to buy the item & a couple of other titles they had on offer.

The documentary is listed on David Gasten's Pola Negri website. He did not direct the documentary, but contributed much to it. He no longer lives in Texas, but you should be able to contact him through his website, or the Pola Negri Facebook page.
