Charley's Aunt

Post by Danny » Fri Nov 25, 2011 8:44 am

Grapevine has announced their new release of "Charley's Aunt" starring Syd Chaplin. I have been curious about this for a while. But before I buy it, I'd be interested in any comments about this version. Thanks.

:? I have a copy of the older release of CHARLEY'S AUNT on DVD-R from VHS. I've had it for years. Unfortunately, I never got around to watching it. Print quality was only so, so. The new DVD-R is probably an improved transfer.

Just pick up American Slapstick Vol. 2 from All Day Entertainment; it includes a nice copy of CHARLEY'S AUNT plus a ton of other silent comedies.

If you never got around to watching it, how are you qualified to pass judgement on its print quality?

Obviously because he popped it into the DVD player and then didn't watch it because the quality was lousy.

Sounds suspiciously like the politician/pundit who trashes a bill s/he hasn't bothered to read.

I don't see the connection.

The connection is that Harlett likes to needle Gagman given the slightest opportunity, even when the needling makes no logical sense within the context of the thread, as in this instance.

Getting back to the original question, I've seen the film (but not this particular version) and thought it quite good. It follows the plot without major changes (as far as I remember), and is therefore close to later versions that you may have seen, such as Jack Benny's.
