Warner Archive disc problem

Post by FrankFay » Sat Dec 03, 2011 6:25 pm

I took advantage of the Warner Archive 5 films for $50 deal, but one just won't play.

It's Garbo's THE KISS, I've tried it in two computers and one disc player and it refuses to load and play. I've sent a message to Warner's on Friday but haven't heard back. Are they good about exchanging or replacing defective discs?

Yes. They have excellent cutomer service. They will most likely just send you a replacement. I had a couple go bad and they didn't make me return the bad discs.

Good to hear. I gave them the order number, hope I'll hear back during the week.

On a related note, according to the person who posted the below on the Home Theater Forum, Warner Archive has modified their defective replacement program so that it covers discs purchased at any time, rather than only within the previous 30 days:

As an added note; every on-demand DVDR disc, like WAC's, I purchase, the first thing I do make a backup copy or 2. A DVDR could work one day but not the next. Has happened to me twice - never again.

Right after Warner Archive shipped the first copies of Garbo's ROMANCE, they realized many were defective--so they, preemptively, sent replacement discs.

My disc arrived today- sent to my home address instead of my shipping address. It plays properly- from a tired but decent print. It's a beautiful film and at times rises to brilliance. The score is a bit of a mischmasch, tends to be too busy but is generally effective.

THE KISS was an early release, and there were a lot of clunkers--old transfers--in the early Warner Archive releases. I just bought RASPUTIN AND THE EMPRESS, another early release, and it's mastered from a transfer prepared long ago: It has the Turner logo/fanfare! Discs have improved since then.
