Ivan Mosjoukine's facelift

Post by Henry Nicolella » Tue Dec 06, 2011 3:42 pm

I've read that when the great actor Ivan Mosjoukine came to Hollywood under a Universal contract, the producers told him he'd have to get a face-lift and he complied. However, according to "The Carnival Child", a very fine Russian documentary on Mosjoukine, he didn't get a facelift until after he returned to Europe, his Hollywood career having consisted of only one film, 1926's "Surrender." Anyone know how the Universal story got started or if there is any truth to it?

I don't know how the story started, but I can confirm that Mosjoukine didn't get his nose/face job done until he went to Germany after his unique Hollywood picture. His 'new face' is only visible in his later German silent films. I don't why he did it, because frankly his face was perfect. Afterwards, he lost part of his expression...sad.
