Houdini was a Spy for Scotland Yard?

Post by Gagman 66 » Wed Jan 04, 2012 5:01 pm

:o Been meaning to mention this. The new episode of Brad Meltzer's DECODED airing on the History Channel tonight is making a case that Eric "Harry Houdini" Weiss may have been a spy for the British Government. What's more , that he may have died because he was a Spy? Where did this stuff come from? Can anyone shed more light on the subject? Actually, the preview is a little vague, so I'm not sure that they are saying Scotland Yard?

And a previous biography (The Secret Life of Houdini) claimed that he was murdered by Spiritualists.

Scotland has only one "t," unless you're referring to my yard.

It was a theme explored in "The Secret Life of Houdini" by William Kalush 2007. I think it was supposed to be a casual thing with the US govt, since he was always touring Europe and came in contact with police figures, escaping handcuffs and cells. Pre-WW1, there was intrigue overseas, so who knows?
