One More Colleen Moore silent 'not lost'
One More Colleen Moore silent 'not lost'
The Library of Congress has THROUGH THE DARK a Goldwyn release. It was made before FLAMING YOUTH but released afterwards. I tried the search function to see if anyone talked about this film.

How did you find this? I can't locate it.....

I found the listing in FIAF, but there's an added note: "incomplete (dupe negative: reels 1-6 of 8; access copy: reel 1 only)."sepiatone wrote:The Library of Congress has THROUGH THE DARK a Goldwyn release. So, yes, the bulk of the film does exist, but at the present time only the first reel is available for viewing.

Re: One More Colleen Moore silent 'not lost'
from the printed AFI guide, they have it lettered F. I. P which simply means F- it's a Feature, I - It's Incomplete, P- Preserved and for viewing. Since this guide is from the late 70s I would only guess that what was nitrate then has been acetated by now. Incomplete is a grabbag as many films deemed incomplete then, have since been viewed in complete form. Despite it's age this book is rarely wrong. I love it as it showed the AFI/LoC reaching out to the public letting them know what's going on with the films, my only regret is that it should have seen updates in the past few decades. But probably much FIAF data has come out of this book.drednm wrote:How did you find this? I can't locate it.....

that's what 'incomplete' can mean. It could mean a number of things. Reels 7 & 8 may not necessarily be lost, they could be on loan, they could be in nitrate or the data in FIAF could be old as well and not been updated. But it shows the film survives in some kind of form. The info about the reelage is more than I knew however.Wm. Re: One More Colleen Moore silent 'not lost'
sepiatone,
I knew about THROUGH THE DARK existing in some form, but lacked details. So thanks for the revelation. Also curious if anymore material has turned up on THE NTH COMMANDMENT or not?

Re: One More Colleen Moore silent 'not lost'
Aw man, I REALLY wanna see this...I hope it can be restored and made available at some point.
Re: One More Colleen Moore silent 'not lost'
I got a chance to thumb through the new Colleen Moore book (at a local college) and went through the filmography section. It is listed that this film survives in only two reels. The author doesn't state at what preservation facility or maybe even meaning the two reels are the LoC's copy.
Re: One More Colleen Moore silent 'not lost'
This is the only existing copy per various extant and soon-to-be-published databases but a collector or foreign archive might always have one. From LC public ard catalog
