Holmes and Yoyo
Holmes and Yoyo
Sure the production values were
somewhat slapdash and never mind
that it is among T.V. Guide's 50 Worst
Shows of All Times (a list where Hogan's
Heroes is #5 and Pink Lady and Jeff is
#35) Holmes and Yoyo (#33) a television
series from the 1970's about a relationship
between city police detective Alexander Holmes
(Richard B. Schull) and Robot-disguised-as-human
Gregory "Yoyo" Yoyonovich (John Schuck) was a lot
of fun when I saw it during its initial broadcast.
What makes it relevant to Nitrateville is the vaudeville
like banter between the two leads. With writing that
aims for the cheap seats, the old-fashioned comedy team
dialogue is still there.
Re: Holmes and Yoyo
Wow, strange: I hadn't thought about this show for YEARS, then earlier today I looked it up on YouTube (along with other 70's shows like The Barbary Coast with Doug McClure and Shatner, The Man From Atlantis, etc.) Then I come here and see this post.
And speaking of 70's shows and very on-topic, I recommend Ellery Queen starring Jim Hutton and David Wayne. It only lasted one season but it's a really fun show (set in the 40's, not modernized) and the guest star slots are filled with great classic actors. Music was by Elmer Bernstein, so that's another bonus. Netflix has it but not streaming. Here's the complete first episode on YouTube. Ray Milland and Kim Hunter guest star.
