Glad to see this posted. Funny story: A few years ago, I hosted a 1776 panel, which included Daniels. At one point I said, "I would be remiss in my status as a geek if I didn't as you about 'Captain Nice.'" The audience applauded, and he looked at me with total disdain and said, "Why would you ask me about that?" He essentially dismissed the whole thing and said the only good thing about it was that he met Buck Henry, who then cast him in THE GRADUATE. I regained my composure and said, "Be that as it may, you just heard the audience applaud at the memory of a show that ran 13 weeks over 40 years ago and hasn't been seen since. You must admit that has to count for something." He admitted that was true and we moved on, but I don't think I've ever encountered someone so dismissive of work that so many people really took to.

William Daniels specializes
in uptight characters.

Uptight father in The Graduate.
Uptight social worker in A Thousand Clowns.
Uptight voice of K.I.T.T. Car in the T.V. series
Knight Rider

It may not be a put on.

He was pretty uptight in St. Elsewhere, too.

Loved Captain Nice. I wish whoever owns them could put them out in a set.
