The Benny WWII-era radio episodes disappointed me when I heard them, as Rochester was still a caricature and I thought it would have been toned down some for the war effort. It also reminds me that I heard friendly rival Fred Allen do a straight interview with a Pullman porter in 1937, no racial caricatures involved.

In 1956 and 1959, Anderson recreated his original role of Noah in THE GREEN PASTURES for NBC TV. I have a kinescope of the 1959 telecast and he is superb, just as he was 23 years before.

Back in the early 90's, my daughter did a school report on Eddie Anderson and her teacher was totally impressed by what she learned about the real life of someone she had previously regarded as just a "show boater".
