I think this thread has played out.
Perhaps we can reverse it - actors who originated a part but were replaced in the sequels

Re: actors who played same role twice
I've been watching the Sharpe series, and so far two Wellingtons, plus a different intelligence officer between season 1 and season 2. (Initially Brian Cox, who is among many illustrious supporting cast members including, so far, Pete Postlethwait, Elizabeth Hurley, and a very young Daniel Craig.)
Return to Peyton Place is the only movie I know of where they replaced the entire cast in the sequel and touted that as an attraction.

A substantial portion of the Hardy family was recast after the first Andy Hardy film, A Family Affair (1937), and the first of its many sequels. Difficult to think of Judge Hardy as anyone but Lewis Stone, but Lionel Barrymore originated the role.

Dudley Field Malone (1882-1950), a lawyer-politician-progressive, has imdb newsreel credits —starting in the teens of the last century — that must be woefully incomplete, given his many filmed appearances during the Monkey Trial and Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping. Malone and Darrow can be seen in the video below, flanking Scopes.
In 1935, Malone declared bankruptcy — mostly money owed to friends, including William K. Vanderbilt, Edward F. Hutton and the late Otto H. Kahn!! — and moved to Westwood.
He secured employment as counsel to 20th Century Fox, and wound up portraying Winston Churchill in Edge of Darkness (vocals only)(1943),Mission to Moscow (1943), and An American in Paris (1951).
