Joe Dante on The Commentary Track

Post by elalamo » Sun Apr 07, 2013 12:55 pm

My guest on this week's "Commentary Track" podcast is the great Joe Dante. We talk about cartoons, Roger Corman, the Alamo and killing Leonard Maltin with gremlins. If you have half as much fun listening as I did talking with him, you'll have a grand time indeed. Get it on iTunes or straight from the website.

Frank,

I love the podcasts! Keep them coming.

Is there any possibility that Joe Dante can help you arrange an interview with John Landis? It would be interesting to hear about his early work as a stunt double on such films as ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, in addition to his film career and his guide to MONSTERS IN THE MOVIES.

A few other suggestions for interviews...

Dan Kamin on Charlie Chaplin (As a mime, I think Kamin has provided the best analysis of Chaplin's physical artistry)
James Curtis on W.C. Fields, Preston Sturges, and James Whale
Jeffrey Vance on various silent stars
James Harvey on Romantic Comedy
Danny Peary on Cult Movies
Edward Watz on Wheeler and Woolsey
James Neibaur on Jerry Lewis and others

Keep fighting the good fight,
garv

A fun interview...one more person I wish I'd met when I was in California.
By the way, a lot of us don't scan 'talkie news' every day, I usually check out 'talking about silents, talking about talkies,' headings and not the others; it's confusing because I think often these headings could be under one thread. So my point is that you might try posting these 'heads up' comments in the other categories.
"You can't top pigs with pigs."

Walt Disney, responding to someone who asked him why he didn't immediately do a sequel to The Three Little Pigs

Thanks for the tip, Lokke. I'll post in other sections and will ask Nitrateville patrons not to hold it against me if they see the same notice two or three times. Just trying to spread the word.

Some great ideas there, Garv. I don't do phone interviews (don't think they work for long-form interviews like this) so that knocks a couple off the list, even though James Neibaur, particularly, is someone I'd love to talk with. I've contacted two or three of these already but haven't heard back. So everybody on that list -- call me.

I'd be honored to talk with you, Frank.
