Phantom of the Opera - Image/Blackhawk Blu-ray OOP?

Post by SilentsPlease » Sat Apr 20, 2013 8:57 am

Is this Blu-ray out of print already? Many retailers are low in stock or have run out. Third-party sellers are already claiming it's OOP and jacking up the prices. Someone asked Image and it said it HADN'T been OOP, but it didn't know when retailers would restock it either. Anyone can confirm? Mr. Shepard?

It appears to me that DVD/blu-ray sales must be way down. Even the big box stores like Best Buy and Frys have cut down their retail space for discs. Unless it's the new big hit coming out, you pretty much have to buy it online.

Yikes! Thanks for pointing this out. I have written to Image and asked their plans. I'll report back.

Times are indeed tough for "packaged media" (DVD and Blu-Ray both). After several years out of print, $200 scalper prices, and much nagging, Image finally reprinted the Chaplin Mutuals. They made 800 copies, of which only 150 have sold. 120 of those went to amazon.com, and based on the large discount they are offering, even amazon's sales were far below expectations.

Image responded to my inquiry, explaining that there had been replication issues with Sony (that does the pressing) but that these have now been solved, and they hope to have stock again quite soon.
