New Jack Benny episodes on DVD

Post by sethb » Mon May 27, 2013 4:59 pm

This may be a little off-topic since it concerns a television show rather than a movie, but on the other hand it does involve Jack Benny, who also had a long career in films. I saw the following blurb on Amazon about the "Lost Episodes of the Jack Benny Show" and wondered what this was all about. Go to http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008Z0 ... 2625373011" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank for more info.

I remember that there was also a series of "lost" Laurel & Hardy shorts released a few years ago, mostly the silent pre-1929 ones, and they had actually been available from Blackhawk Films and other sources for many years.

So were these Jack Benny programs "lost" in some "copyright hell," or were the kinescopes just sitting on the wrong shelf for 50 years? Since Shout! Factory is the producer, I'd guess the former rather than the latter. But if anyone has any info about this, it would be appreciated.
Please don't call the occasional theatrical release of an old movie a "reissue." We do not say "The next time you go to the Louvre, you will see a re-issue of the Mona Lisa.” -- Cecil B. DeMille

Buy it direct from Shout/Factory and, as with the Kovacs sets, you get a bonus DVD, a TV adaptation of The Horn Blows At Midnight. Not a salesman, just a Benny fan, and many will want this extra even at a cost of a few more dollars. Knowledge is power when purchasing DVDs.

…and I can tell you from my experience working on the two Kovacs sets that Shout will never release the bonus disc separately as a standalone.

Lost, schmost, what's important is that they're available. I ordered mine direct when first announced, and I'm really curious about the Horn Blows TV adapation.
