According to this link, "The Freshman" is going to be Criterion's next Harold Lloyd release. Restoration (another one I guess) is underway right now apparently.

It's likely "The Sin of Harold Diddlebock" will be a special feature. Part of me wishes these releases came out more often, but if "The Freshman" looks anything like "Safety Last" it'll be well worth the wait.

I will second that. I have really enjoyed watching the Blu-Ray of SAFETY LAST, a superb restoration of a great comedy feature (not to mention the added features of the THIRD GENIUS documentary and early "glasses" shorts) and I look forward to the next Criterion release of Harold's features.

That is great news indeed. I'll likely be preordering this one when the time comes. Thank you for the information.

:? So I wonder if this release will include the new Carl Davis score? I'm certainly not asking for them to replace the Robert Israel score by any means. But an alternate track of the Davis score would be something new that you couldn't get before on the previous DVD release. This is not the score that Davis prepared for the film back in 1998, but a brand new one. It's had a couple of live performances in the past few months. I won't count on it happening, but it's not impossible a recording of the score could be included. Does anyone have additional details?

There's really quite a bit that Criterion could include. "The Sin of Harold Diddlebock" would be a good extra. Also, they could include Harold Lloyd's 1964 compilation film "The Funny Side of Life" since that is basically a reissue of "The Freshman." Then, there's the 1953 reissue version (which I know very little about - does anyone know what the score is like for that version). I also wouldn't be surprised if there's a Gaylord Carter score for this film too (I really enjoyed hearing Gaylord's score for "Safety Last").

I suspect since Carl Davis worked closely with Janus/Criterion on syncing up his score to Safety Last as well as sitting down for a 30-minute interview, that if a recording of the score can be done, then I'd imagine it would be done. I would also have to imagine the Robert Israel would be included as well as any other scores that are on hand. That's why it takes significant time to put these packages together.

While we're waiting for all these, they've posted Dr. Jack on their Hulu Plus page:

They will likely keep posting all these properties, and I'd have to guess the default score would be the ones used in the New Line set in 2005 since I would presume they came with the Harold Lloyd Trust when Janus FIlms licensed these films.
