I Married A Monster from Outer Space

Post by Phillyrich » Mon Sep 30, 2013 9:13 am

Many 1950's sci-fi movies are pretty weak stuff, but I've always been a fan of some of the better ones.

"I Married A Monster From Outer Space" is a really under-appreciated little film, very suspenseful as it unveils its story. ( I think the title hurts it with potential viewers. It's not camp.) Special effects are minimal and it works better that way. I think the film still holds up pretty well. Has some of the atmosphere of paranoia captured so well by the 1956 "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers."

IMMOS is from 1958 with Tom Tyron and Gloria Talbot. Available now (or soon I think) from the Warner Archives.

Any fans of IMMOS?

Anyone want to offer any other under-valued pleasures of 1950's sci fi?

This one is on my wish list, if the price ever comes down or if I ever see it on TCM or AMC. I love the ol' sci-fi movies from the 50's, and it sounds like this is one of the better ones. Good stuff!

Monsters from outer space are all right, I've got nothing against 'em, but I prefer the home-grown variety, spawned, generally, by A-bomb testing, or (better yet) nuclear war.

My faint recollection of one of the latter has haunted me for decades...because I saw it IN the '50s. The scene is an ordinary house in some remote part of the country, where several survivors of "World War III" have taken refuge. They are doing just fine until terrorized by a mutant man monsterized by exposure to nuclear radiation. There is, of course, a beautiful girl who likes to go walking by herself in the moonlight. Anyone remember the title of this one?

We recently watched this one with a group of 8-10 people, and it went over quite well. It's a good one. Worth seeking out, and fortunately, readily available.

Sounds like THE DAY THE WORLD ENDED (1955)
