In two part of course

This will be an ideal chance for people to preview these films. I've got the DVD and strongly recommend it. The films are all fun and there is quite a variety, including a rare 1921 sound short film that's an obvious forerunner to the Cinerama films featuring views from moving trains, a lovely little 1929 two-color Technicolor short, and of course John Ford's long-lost comedy feature UPSTREAM (not to mention the surviving three reels of the "Hitchcock" feature THE WHITE SHADOW). The DVD also includes an extensive booklet of background information. (Now if only it were on Blu-ray!)Kelly wrote:Look like TCM got off their butt next Weekend Sunday November 17 and 24 they going show world premire tv showing Lost films that new Zealand just restored

Some people are never satisfied, are they?Christopher Jacobs wrote: (Now if only it were on Blu-ray!)
I've given up waiting for something interesting and new on TCM Australia. You should be able to get it with shipping from Amazon for just under $30. The price of two movie tickets.Donald Binks wrote:Some people are never satisfied, are they?Christopher Jacobs wrote:. (Now if only it were on Blu-ray!)![]()
(I haven't got a blue ray, a red ray or even a purple one!)
I wish we had a decent version of TCM here in Oz as we will miss out on seeing this! (Does my face look green to you?)
Nor I; I just thank God my cathode ray TV is still working fine!Donald Binks wrote:. (I haven't got a blue ray, a red ray or even a purple one!)
You betcha! Working for over 20 years in a movie theatre spoiled me for 35mm quality. Blu-ray is as close as it gets for cheap and convenient home use.Donald Binks wrote:Some people are never satisfied, are they?Christopher Jacobs wrote: (Now if only it were on Blu-ray!)![]()

Wow, 7.5:1 aspect ratio! Gance could have made Napolaeon in pentaptych, almost sexptych!Donald Binks wrote:...How many homes have a screen that is 4 metres high and 30 metres long?...
I'm particularly interested to see "Part 2" which has the only surviving episode of the Edison 12 part serial from 1914, starring Mary Fuller, "The Active Life of Dolly of the Dailies," centered on the exploits of Dolly Desmond (Fuller), an investigative reporter for a daily newspaper. The surviving film is "Episode No. 5, The Chinese Fan."Kelly wrote:Look like TCM got off their butt next Weekend Sunday November 17 and 24 they going show world premire tv showing Lost films that new Zealand just restored

I definitely wouldn't count on it. When TCM aired the first two volumes of TREASURES FROM THE AMERICAN FILM ARCHIVE about a decade ago none of the movies were ever shown again from either set. Except for some Trailers seen in other presentations. Such as The Fragments special. They never re-aired SNOW WHITE (1916), HELL'S HINGES (1916), GRETCHEN THE GRENHORN (1917), TOLL OF THE SEA (1922), Not even the Warner Brother's titles CLASH OF THE WOVLES with Rin Tin -Tin and Lubitsch LADY WINDERMERE'S FAN. If you want to see UPSTREAM and THE WHITE SHADOW, I suggest that you buy the DVD set!
