New From Grapevine: THE CANADIAN (1926) - would be my headline. The oft-rediscovered William Beaudine-directed wonder has been the champ at all the silent film festivals over the years and is a precursor to CITY GIRL. THE CANADIAN is notable for its Somerset Maugham character-driven story, depiction of rape without melodrama, great performance by Mona Palma that star Thomas Meighan generously supports, and its Calgary locations. I have now seen the Library of Congress print three times and will happily buy the dvd.
