Silent film action figures

Post by Arndt » Wed Sep 10, 2008 1:18 am

Hooray! Finally there are action figures that allow the discerning silent film fan to recreate his favourite scenes in the privacy of his own bedroom. You can find them at EBAY:
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dl ... category0=
But there are only a few. I'd like to see many more, for example:

Lillian Gish on the ice float from WAY DOWN EAST

Mary Pickford with an aligator from SPARROWS

Janet Gaynor and George O'Brien in the boat from SUNRISE

Maybe you have some favourites, too?

Don't mean to disillusion you, but the Silent Screamers series came out about 7 years ago and stopped after releasing, I think, 6 figures. None of which particularly resemble the film characters, except perhaps Maria from METROPOLIS.

I very vaguely remember reading about these. The local comic/sci-fi book shop sells hundreds of action figures often based on movie characters. Rarely, it seems to me, do they ever closely resemble what they're supposed to be based on.

Anyway, never mind:

Ramon Novarro & Francis X Bushman chariot race set

Haystack with Richard Arlen and Louise Brooks asleep inside it

Burning zeppelin with Colleen Moore jumping out of it (some imagination needed on the part of the designer for this one, perhaps)

Tiny fairytale village with demonic Emil Jannings looming over it (press button and a little cloud of green fog comes out, maybe)

Pola Negri flogging Homes Herbert with horsewhip

HO scale Pearl White on little railway trolleycar

seige catapult that fires a little model of John Barrymore over a model town.

Garbo in "Flesh and the Devil". She drops through the ice. (Saving the coat is optional)

I have actually seen a wall clock with a figure of Harold Lloyd suspended from the minute hand.

You certainly are! But then you've not seen my ideas for the BIRTH OF A NATION box set.

Alas, all I picked up was the Nosferatu, and the only one still available is the Hunchback...and because these are actual quality products, and limited editions, they're going for insane prices on eBay... :(
