"The William Desmond Taylor Murder Case" feature in 1937?

Post by Bruce Long » Wed Nov 26, 2014 5:33 pm

The MPPDA site http://mppda.flinders.edu.au indicates that there was a completed feature film in 1937 titled "The William Desmond Taylor Murder Case" which was rejected by the Hays Office. Does anyone have any additional info on the cast, director, plot, etc., even if it was never released?

Cool find. No info on cast details but what's odd is that Consolidated Labs is the submitting company. I wonder if they tried to splice together something that was confiscated by the lab for non-payment? Pretty specific sounding though, maybe an indie producer bit off more than they could chew? The bigwigs 'suggested' to lay off if they ever wanted to eat lunch in this town again? Fascinating to say the least, hope some details come to light...

It was my understanding that Herbert Yates put together Republic by forcing Gower Gulch producers to merge or actually pay their bills to Consolidated. This may have been a film whose actual producer didn't pay and which Consolidated took over in lieu.

Live and learn. Still, I doubt if he objects to a link to his site.

Has anyone read Mann's "Tinseltown" yet? I'll ask for this one for Christmas.
