Bwana Devil

Post by Bob Furmanek » Fri Nov 28, 2014 1:54 pm

Shout! Factory has licensed BWANA DEVIL but has no plans for a 3-D blu-ray release. Please let them know that you want to see the film as originally intended and recommend that 3-D Film Archive does the restoration: https://www.shoutfactory.com/contact" target="_blank" target="_blank

Hi! Bob

As requested I have written to Shout Factory thru your link and used the Query: Suggetion for release and I asked for the 3-D Blu Ray edition and mentioned your expertise and I do have all released.

Today I ordered my first 3-D TV(55" UHD/4K). I now need to find my 3-D all regions Blu Ray player I bought more than a year ago!!!!!

Thank you for sending your suggestions to Shout Factory. While we aren't able to respond to your email personally, we read every one and appreciate your input.

Probably a standard form response in seconds but let's hope they read it.

Thanks,

Shout Factory

Thank you very much, Moviepas!

The problem is their last two 3-D blu-ray releases did not do well so they're reluctant to do another.

AMITYVILLE 3-D was badly mastered and was in a box set with two flat films.

SECTOR 7 is an obscure Korean science-fiction film with bad reviews.

BWANA may not be a great film but it's important in the history of stereoscopic cinema. The title is instantly recognizable.

There is no existing 3-D master so we would need to do HD scans of the left/right materials and fix it shot-by-shot. As we have shown with THE BUBBLE and DRAGONFLY SQUADRON, we can create an optimum 3-D master for a great price.

I used the link to send a message and received an automated reply that they're closed for the Thanksgiving weekend.

Thanks Bob. I was aware that one side was missing on Bwana and wondered how you would get over that. But why would they take the rights if they are not going to do the job properly? Let's hope something does come of it.

Ran bits of the last two Flicker Cinerama last night and was very impressed. I loved the soundtrack themes.

Both left/right sides are intact on BWANA.

My error. I thought this was the one with only one "eye".

In 1953 former Universal contralto Gloria Jean made an independent color film, Wonder Valley, which is listed as no usuable prints exist. She said that the reels were all stuck together and could not be unraveled which may or may not be true. It was her only color film(her Universal colleague only made one color film as well). This film was made in Arkansas and they are looking for a playable print. Could this be a case of a 35mm negative being left in a lab and destroyed when not claimed?

You're thinking of TOP BANANA. That's the only totally lost 3-D feature from the 1950's.

BBC News Magazine needs to do their homework: BWANA DEVIL was not shown with red/blue anaglyphic glasses. Sigh...
