Has Criterion abandoned releasing Harold Lloyd Blu-rays?

Post by Tommie Hicks » Sat Dec 13, 2014 2:33 pm

It seems the Criterion Harold Lloyd Blu-rays have ceased. Does anyone know for sure?

The Chaplin features seemed to have stopped also.

The conventional wisdom is that WHY WORRY? will be next up for Criterion Blu Ray release, with a Carl Davis score, sometime in the spring of 2015.

The rumor mill on the next Chaplin release is a little cloudier, but THE KID would seem to be a good bet.

I am more interested in the one-reelers included, since those are the films I don't have

Suzanne Lloyd mentioned in an interview earlier this year that Criterion was working on a box set of Harold Lloyd's talkies:

The pattern so far has been one Lloyd and one or two Chaplins a year. It's just The Criterion Collection has a great many releases every year and only so much money and resources. Just last month they released a box set of The Complete Jacques Tati, so it's just a matter of resources. I would bet on at least one Lloyd and one Chaplin in 2015.

Same here. I was disappointed when they only had one new one-reeler on The Freshman Blu-ray/DVD.
