Warning about "The Luck of the Irish" DVD
Several years ago I purchased a Tyrone Power DVD set primarily to acquire "The Luck of the Irish" (most of the other films in the collection were good too). I have long enjoyed the movie, and I try to revisit it about once a year or so (I say this to establish that I've had several error-free viewings of the DVD). Anyway, when I tried re-watching the film about six months ago, I found that my blu-ray player wouldn't play the latter half of the movie. I simply figured that the disc was a victim of DVD-rot. I tried playing it on two alternate players and my laptop to no avail. Earlier today, I was surprised to find a used copy of the DVD at a garage sale for two dollars. I couldn't resist picking it up for a replacement for that low price. I just tried playing it and found that this copy exhibits the same playback defects that my original copy has. So, now I'm wondering if this is a systemic issue rather than a mere fluke. I do know that double-sided DVDs have been known for being problematic at times (the flip-side of the DVD contains another fine Power movie - "I'll Never Forget You." I haven't checked to see if there are any playback issues with the other side of the disc). Has anyone else experienced playback problems with this DVD? I do plan on trying to contact Fox Home Entertainment sometime next week to notify them of my experiences. I rather doubt that they can (or would) do anything about it, but I can at least request a blu-ray reissue or a MOD DVD-r.
