Identifying some classical music - Colgate Comedy Hour

Post by jjbluecaps » Fri Jun 12, 2015 9:25 am

Hello friends!

https://youtu.be/Bl99zgwFevA" target="_blank

I will represent this sketch that Jerry Lewis did in Colgate Comedy Hour and wanted to reassemble the present songs in it, but have identified only a few:

- Habanera,
- Romeo & Juliet Love Theme,
- William Tell Overture.

Excuse my ignorance, but can anyone help me saying what are the other songs?

Also, if it is not asking too much, someone knows different versions of these songs, not the classical standard we are used to?
Thank you very much for the help!

Can't think of the names of some to which the music is familiar, but here's some to which I can put a name to:
"Jalousie"
"Anvil Chorus" from "Il Travatore"
"Poet and Peasant" overture

I might have another listen and see if I can guess some more for you anon.

0:00 TCHAIKOVSKY: Romeo and Juliet
0:33 GADE, JACOB: Jalousie
0:52 Irish Washerwoman (traditional Irish jig)
1:00 THOMAS, AMBROISE: Raymond: Overture
1:25 VERDI: Il Trovatore: Anvil Chorus
1:37 ROSSINI: William Tell: Overture
1:58 SUPPE, FRANZ VON: Poet and Peasant - Overture

---------

There ought to be an accent on the "e" in SUPPE.

For a barrel of laffs, check out the version of Raymond by the Guckenheimer Sour Kraut Band on a 1958 RCA stereo LP!!!
