Richard the Lion-Hearted (1923) Exists

Post by drednm » Fri Sep 25, 2015 5:36 am

A note from a staff member at CNC - Centre national du cinéma in France tells me they indeed have a copy of this film starring Wallace Beery and Marguerite de la Motte. However, it has not been restored or digitized and they have no plans for it.

David's LOC database says no archival holdings so maybe that can be updated.

We'll confirm with CNC and then add the title to the next website update.

This film's sounds as though it was a sequel to Fairbanks' ROBIN HOOD, of course w/o Doug.

And without Richard, at least not for much longer.

I remember Robert Youngson in one of his 60s compilations, ( I think it was MGMs Big Parade of Comedy) paying praise to Wally Beery's versatility by saying "he played everything from Sweedie the Servant Girl - to - Richard the Lionhearted. Youngson might have been referring to Beery in both Fairbanks 'Robin Hood' and in this film.
