new silent mini-documentary

Post by cawkercitykid » Thu Oct 29, 2015 11:48 am

The Cawker City Hesperian Historical Society presents our first video project which was made possible by a grant form the Dane G. Hansen Foundation through the Solomon Valley Community Foundation.

I welcome your comments, suggestions and criticism (I can take it). Thanks!

The film was taken at the Hotel Alexandria in L. A. and at Claire Windsor's home. Pioneer film director Allan Dwan pays Claire a visit.

Very well done, but providing sub-titles with the names of the pictures from which the stills were taken would be helpful. Only photo I recognized was the one from The Blot, and it was so sharp & clear compared to the surviving print that I almost failed to recognize the scene.

Damn shame there's no audio to her duo with Allan Dwan!

Claire Windsor is a name lovely enough to match her marvelous face, but for sheer unforgettability it doesn't touch Ola Cronk! (A name, however, that would probably have condemned her to slapstick.)

Quite fascinating to see all this home movie footage - so thank you very much for posting. All beautifully put together and nicely accompanied.

Ms. Windsor showed that even in old age, she had never lost the art of how to appear before the camera. She had poise, elegance and charm as well as good taste.

I can't see that Ola Cronk would have been a name that would have gone with a leading lady!

The photo with Louis Calhern is from "Too Wise Wives." Claire made 3 films with Louis Calhern at Paramount (Lois Weber Productions).

I think I will take the photo montage and post it with identification as a separate clip on YouTube. For this first project, I wanted people to just enjoy the photos.

Does anyone know someone who can read lips? There are several places that I can almost figure out what she is saying but would like to know for sure.

I took the photo montage from the film, expanded it, and then added the title of each film to the corresponding still. The new material is first. I tried several different colors for the text and red seemed to work the best. However, on a small screen, the text is still hard to read. I'm still experimenting.

Not hard to read at all, & beats the hell out of trying to compare scenes with the list of titles.

Can't decide whether Dance Madness or Fashion Madness is the one I'd most want to see; sadly, of course, I'll never see either.
