Kino Lorber Clearance Sale Through Sunday
Kino Lorber is deleting some classic titles from their catalog, and they will be unavailable after Sunday. The clearance sale includes $4.99 blu-rays of THE BLACK PIRATE and PANDORA AND THE FLYING DUTCHMAN, as well as DVDs of many Douglas Fairbanks titles and THE OLD DARK HOUSE (my favorite Universal horror). Get 'em while you can!

Re: Kino Lorber Clearance Sale Through Sunday
I ordered the Pandora blu-ray and added a couple of items to get free shipping.
Thanks for the information about the sale.

It says these are "leaving the collection." I wonder if we will see any of these released by another distributor.
Re: Kino Lorber Clearance Sale Through Sunday
Just picked 'em all up except THE BLACK PIRATE Blu and THE OLD DARK HOUSE DVD, which I already had. A serious steal of a deal! Thanks!

Hopefully that's the last we see of that wretched transfer of The Black Pirate!

Too bad about the poor sales for The Black Pirate, those meager figures I believe were a big part of Kino's decision to pull back on releasing silents. I think the DVD may be going away too, along with Iron Mask and The Three Musketeers. Sorry these title will not be in print anymore. The Black Pirate was one of the first blu-rays I bought. Love it.

$8 to ship a blu-ray?! Postage can't be half that! Must come in some special box!

Inexplicable that advantage would not be taken of Media Rate shipping, though for only a single disk, there'd probably be little difference between that rate and First Class. Instead, Kino uses Fed Ex, but who needs 2 or 3 day shipping service?ColemanShedman wrote:$8 to ship a blu-ray?! Postage can't be half that! Must come in some special box!
Wait, I forgot: in the 21st C., nobody can be expected to do without instant gratification.

I had three Blu Rays in the queue yesterday after reading about the sale here, but when I got to checkout the shipping was $10. No thanks. I closed the tab.entredeuxguerres wrote:Inexplicable that advantage would not be taken of Media Rate shipping, though for only a single disk, there'd probably be little difference between that rate and First Class. I believe many, if not all of these titles were formerly part of the Rohauer Collection which is now owned by Cohen Media as part of the Cohen Film Collection. I would guess that they will probably reappear on that label in new restorations.colbyco82 wrote:It says these are "leaving the collection." Re: Kino Lorber Clearance Sale Through Sunday
I got the email about this sale, but didn't see it until late last night. Thanks for the reminder, BM!
Turns out this was a really good sale. I usually don't order directly from Kino unless the prices are right and free shipping is available, but this sale was right on both counts. I managed to get just above the $50 threshold for free shipping.
Even though I had about half of these titles, the other half made it worthwhile. I wanted to pick up another copy of ABRAHAM LINCOLN/THE STRUGGLE since I couldn't get the latter movie to play the first time around. But I think they've fixed the problem since then, and I got a new DVD player in the meantime, so I thought I'd give it another go. If it still doesn't play, I can always send it back.
I came thisclose to buying PANDORA AND THE FLYING DUTCHMAN, but having seen it a while back on TCM, I decided not to. While it's beautifully shot, it's a real train wreck of a film -- the story was just too strange and confusing, yet I just couldn't look away. In the long run, it just didn't look like something I'd watch more than once (an important criterion for me when buying DVDs).
I just looked at the sale page again, and I see The Douglas Fairbanks Collection is no longer available. Can't say I'm surprised -- six films on five discs for only $12.99? If I didn't have it already, I would have snapped it up in a heartbeat! Great way to get acquainted with Doug if you weren't already there.
I also found the price listed for THE IRON MASK is not the price I paid -- and that's good. While it lists for $29.95 on the page, it was $25.46 when I put it in my cart and placed my order.

Many of the out of print Kino Lorber blu-rays and dvds are now available at low prices at http://www.hamiltonbook.com. I picked up Douglas Fairbanks' THE IRON MASK, which I missed before it went out of print.
