Cary Grant's The Amazing Quest of Ernest Bliss (1936)

It's in the public domain and the poor quality, severely edited, 62 minute US issue can be found everywhere. Does the original, 80 minute UK version actually still exist?

There was a 1920 version which there is no known materials held in archives and starred well-known UK actress Chrissie White. Its loss is probably due to Cecil Hepworth(the producer) going bankrupt in a couple of years from this film and the liquidators are said to have destroyed all his materials for their silver content and not on-selling then negatives to the distributors around then like Jury's(they did MGM in UK in the 1920s, for example).

Hope this helps.

Fantastic – thanks so much! Their versions would have a runtime of just under 77 minutes, which is close enough for me. Ernie, here I come!
