Buster Keaton for President
I hope I am not violating any rules about mentioning commerce or politics. I am not involved in the manufacturing or sale of the tee shirt. I might order one:

I think an older image of Keaton would've been more amusing.

I remember the Pat Paulsen campaign, which was probably the most riotous of any of the samples posted by JFK.
Especially memorable was the Smothers Brothers show right after the election. A half-bombed, half-exhausted Paulsen stumbled his way through election detritus to deliver some kind of speech to the camera. It was the most authentic post-election image I've ever seen on TV or in the movies!

Keaton's perfect, everything we could want in a President - unflappable under pressure, whose earnestness always prevails in the end. Anybody else like that out there? I thought not.

Well, W.C. Fields is pretty unflappable, at least when he's got a snootful. Earnest? Maybe not, but always does the right thing in the end.Mitch Farish wrote:Keaton's perfect, everything we could want in a President - unflappable under pressure, whose earnestness always prevails in the end. Unfortunately, Ulysses Grant has already proven drunks don't make the best presidents.

I love Pat Paulsen! His delivery was perfect and he was so clever.

Wasn't there a statesman a few decades ago who famously didn't smoke or drink, and who was a vegetarian? Now what was his name again...Jim Roots wrote:Unfortunately, Ulysses Grant has already proven drunks don't make the best presidents.
In silent film, no-one can hear you scream.

Re: Buster Keaton for President
I think Veep is channelling that "Four Marx Brothers For Vice President" concept right now...

I should like to read Gracie Allen's "How to Be President". I am sure it would make more sense than anything else available of late?

I have an early 70's reprint of the Fields book in which he admits to "smoking a cannabis cigarette".
