Two reviews of Pordenone Festival 22

Post by Lokke Heiss » Tue Sep 13, 2016 8:46 pm

I knew that Jay Weissberg, the new director of the Pordenone Silent Film Festival, was a film reviewer, but I didn't know he also reviewed entire festivals ... it was very interesting to read his review of the same festival I reviewed, in the end it was sort of like starting with the same premise and watching two directors take a crack at adapting it. For those of you truly interested in silent film and have ALL kinds of time, I offer you the Weissberg Version and my version.

I will say that between the two of us, we REALLY covered this festival!

Here is a link to Weissberg's article -

And to my review -

Many thanks for the heads-up on both of these great Pordenone reviews. Much appreciated.

It is ironic the REDSKIN was shown with a live accompaniment when now virtually all of the original synchronized Vitaphone music and effects soundtrack disks are known. Three, for reels 1, 3 and 8 have been around for years. In 2011, I located additional disks for reels 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7. That just leaves the disk for reel 6 missing. The accompaniment is rich, full and appropriate. I hope one day some archive decides to bring REDSKIN up to date with it's original soundtrack. It deserves it.
