The actual sound of an orchestra in the silent era

Here is a rare recording in the sense that it was actually recorded at the Grand Splendid Movie Theater and not in the studios located in the same building, which is why it sound different to the other recordings he made at the time.

This is the place today, now a bookstore:

And here is the recording. Osvaldo Fresedo and his orchestra perform TU DISFRAZ, a tango by Angel Danesi and José De Grandis. The vocal refrain is performed by Ernesto Famá. This was published on the Disco Nacional-Odeon disc 5241 (side A), matrix e-2187, recorded on December 3, 1928.

Hmmm. It plays on my notoriously balky machine. Have you tried playing it directly on Youtube?
