Here is the Variety obit: http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/robert- ... 202002748/" target="_blank
Turner has emailed an announcement as well.
That's an unfortunate URL.

Rest in peace, Robert, and thank you for your guidance over many, many years.

Re: Robert Osborne Dies
The past year has taken so many of the great custodians of classic film. It just reminds me how incumbent it is on the rest of us to keep the light burning. RIP, Mr Osborne.

Saddened by this news. His TCM intros were always fun -- he conveyed such enthusiasm for the films, and you couldn't help but share it.
I once saw Mr. Osborne in person, at the Performing Arts Library where I work. It was the opening night of a new exhibition, and he was escorting Angela Lansbury. She looked regal, while he was beaming.

Re: Robert Osborne Dies
Wow.....so sorry to hear this!
That is the THIRD nostalgia/host we've lost in the last couple months:
Stuart MacLean, 68, the "Canadian Garrison Keillor" and longtime host of CBC radio's VINYL CAFE.
Rich Conaty, 62, host since 1973 of New York radio's THE BIG BROADCAST (WFUV.org)
and now the always genial Robert Osborne.....
Good time to examine ones life and ways---it is later than we think....

He really had a lot of charm. I can't think of one TV personality that excelled him.

Another one of those who I took for granted would always be there. Thank you, Robert, for making TCM the institution it's become.

Re: Robert Osborne Dies
This is very sad news although he appeared to have a wonderful life and a long one and made his living doing what he absolutely loved, talking and writing about classic films. TCM will not be the same without him and that's not only a sad thought but a scary one if some new channel honcho takes it as the passing of an era decides to move the channel into the 21st century ala American Movie Classics.

As I read Robert's obit in Variety tears welled up in my eyes. I hope he knew how much he was loved.

That is another sad news, this is not the introduction I expected to My Cousin Rachel.

Re: Robert Osborne Dies
A good guy who loved the golden era and seemed genuinely knowledgeable about the films. When I first started seeing him he reminded of previous hosts on the original AMC Bob Dorian and George Clooney's father. RIP Mr. Osborne.
Re: Robert Osborne Dies
He was the face of Classic Film for over 20 years for most people. Farewell old friend.
Re: Robert Osborne Dies
Sad news, years ago when I had cable tv and watched TCM (one of the very few channels I watched on a regular basis) I always looked forward to seeing him, Robert always had excellent input on classic films.
RIP

Re: Robert Osborne Dies
A nice tribute here from biographer Scott Eyman (Empire of Dreams: The Epic Life of Cecil B. DeMille, Print the Legend: The Life and Times of John Ford, etc.):
http://www.scotteyman.com/tribute-to-a- ... t-osborne/" target="_blankDinner always consisted of Bob, my wife, Lynn, and myself, and the topic was always the movies. We all agreed that the two word answer to all of life’s knottiest problems was “Barbara Stanwyck,” as in “What would Barbara Stanwyck do?” More often than not, the answer was, “Shoot the son of a bitch,” but that’s more easily accomplished in the movies than in life.
Cinema has no voice, but it speaks to us with eyes that mirror the soul. ―Ivan Mosjoukine
Re: Robert Osborne Dies
I remember when TCM premiered I thought they had just cloned AMC's format. I soon found out that Robert Osborne was something different and something special. I learned so much from his little intros and while he's not the reason I love silent films so much, he and TCM did help for that interest to grow.
Rest in Peace and God bless you, Mr. Osborne.

Re: Robert Osborne Dies
18 months ago, TCM basically died for me when, suddenly, the signal was blocked so nobody in this part of the continent at least can record anything off the channel anymore. Now, this heartbreaking news just seems like the final, bitter blow. Everyone upon hearing of his passing must think to themselves, "What'll we do now...?"
Re: Robert Osborne Dies
TCM will never quite be the same; I hope the current and future hosts will keep the right tone and standard going that Osborne set.

Well, they kinda did.Battra92 wrote:I remember when TCM premiered I thought they had just cloned AMC's format.
But then, that fairly standard format developed before AMC, with local hosts like Detroit's Bill Kennedy, and others.

my parents watched him now and again when my father was Station at Kincheloe Air Force Base back in the day (years before i was born).wich2 wrote:Well, they kinda did.Battra92 wrote:I remember when TCM premiered I thought they had just cloned AMC's format.

my parents told a story that what Bill Kennedy told about when he was in Joan of Arc. it was that during the famous Joan of Arc death scene he was to say (meant something different then)
We need some more faggots over here.
