Its been reported that TCM host Robert Osborne has died today. A big loss for the film community

The past year has taken so many of the great custodians of classic film. It just reminds me how incumbent it is on the rest of us to keep the light burning. RIP, Mr Osborne.

Saddened by this news. His TCM intros were always fun -- he conveyed such enthusiasm for the films, and you couldn't help but share it.

I once saw Mr. Osborne in person, at the Performing Arts Library where I work. It was the opening night of a new exhibition, and he was escorting Angela Lansbury. She looked regal, while he was beaming.

That is the THIRD nostalgia/host we've lost in the last couple months:

Stuart MacLean, 68, the "Canadian Garrison Keillor" and longtime host of CBC radio's VINYL CAFE.

Rich Conaty, 62, host since 1973 of New York radio's THE BIG BROADCAST (WFUV.org)

and now the always genial Robert Osborne.....

Good time to examine ones life and ways---it is later than we think....

This is very sad news although he appeared to have a wonderful life and a long one and made his living doing what he absolutely loved, talking and writing about classic films. TCM will not be the same without him and that's not only a sad thought but a scary one if some new channel honcho takes it as the passing of an era decides to move the channel into the 21st century ala American Movie Classics.

A good guy who loved the golden era and seemed genuinely knowledgeable about the films. When I first started seeing him he reminded of previous hosts on the original AMC Bob Dorian and George Clooney's father. RIP Mr. Osborne.

Sad news, years ago when I had cable tv and watched TCM (one of the very few channels I watched on a regular basis) I always looked forward to seeing him, Robert always had excellent input on classic films.

I remember when TCM premiered I thought they had just cloned AMC's format. I soon found out that Robert Osborne was something different and something special. I learned so much from his little intros and while he's not the reason I love silent films so much, he and TCM did help for that interest to grow.

18 months ago, TCM basically died for me when, suddenly, the signal was blocked so nobody in this part of the continent at least can record anything off the channel anymore. Now, this heartbreaking news just seems like the final, bitter blow. Everyone upon hearing of his passing must think to themselves, "What'll we do now...?"

my parents watched him now and again when my father was Station at Kincheloe Air Force Base back in the day (years before i was born).
my parents told a story that what Bill Kennedy told about when he was in Joan of Arc. it was that during the famous Joan of Arc death scene he was to say (meant something different then)
