Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte (1965): the first version...

Post by brendangcarroll » Sat Apr 15, 2017 7:44 am

I was hoping to attach some stills here of Joan Crawford in various scenes from HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE before she became ill and left the film, but I get an error message saying the quota has been reached.

Anyway, I have always wondered whether the actual footage of these early scenes survives somewhere.

When the special Blu-ray appeared from Twilight Time, I had hoped somebody might have found at least some silent footage but while these rare photos popped up in the extras section, there was no sign of any of the actual rushes.

Am I being unrealistic in hoping this material survives somewhere?

Hi Brendan. Just in case you've never seen this, the AMC Documentary has all the stills and background story here:

Also look at The Concluding Story for another documentary. I'd love to see actual film footage too, but that was probably melted down long ago to make guitar picks.

Cheers Danny!

I do hope you're wrong and that somebody saved the footage.

I thought only colour film got melted down...that's why I am still hopeful.

Thanks for the link!

from imdb-
At 28 minutes and 30 seconds the taxi carrying Miriam pulls up in front of the mansion and for two seconds Joan Crawford can be seen peering out from the backseat window wearing dark sunglasses and dark clothes. When Olivia de Havilland as Miriam is seen in the taxi before she arrives she is wearing a white hat and her clothing is light colored.

Hope springs eternal that after the hub-bub over FEUD, some enterprising soul at Fox will locate some/most/all of the footage La Craw shot and make it available
