New books on Charlie Chan and Todd-Pitts-Kelly series

Post by JLNeibaur » Tue Apr 18, 2017 3:00 pm

For those interested at all --

Signed a contract with Bear Manor to do a complete film-by-film look at the Charlie Chan movie series. Will be including new info on the films, rare photos, and more details

Also signed a contract with McFarland to do a book on the Thelma Todd-ZaSu Pitts-Patsy Kelly series for Roach, going film-by-film and including rare photos and more details about the films, including quotes from an interview I did with Patsy Kelly back in the 70s.

No, I won't be writing these books at the same time, the deadlines are such that they can be written one ofter the other.

My book The W.C. Fields films is out. New info on the lost silents, more info on the rediscovered ones, and fresh assessments of the sound classics. This is a McFarland book.

I have a book on the monster movies from Universal coming out in June. This will be published in a nice hardcover by Rowman and Littlefield

I just finished work on The Andy Clyde Columbia Shorts, going through that series film by film. There are intro chapters on his silents and early talkies and concluding chapters on his features and TV work. More biographical details about Clyde's childhood in Scotland, his leaving acting after a painful experience, and his eventually coming to America. His enduring marriage, the tragic death of his only child, and memories of working with him by everyone from Lorna Gray (Adrian Booth) to Jon Provost. This is another McFarland book and will likely be out early next year.

Thanks for any interest you might have in these projects.

Looking forward to the book on the Chan series; I know of two copies that will be bought here.

I'll be curious to see what new info and rare photos you've uncovered from The House Without a Key.

Hi Ed --

We uncovered several period reviews on the film and our research uncovered more info about Chan actor George Kuwa -- how he approached the role, the manner he used in playing it, etc. Too bad this serial is lost.
