Westfront 1918 and Kameradschaft are two of my all time favourite films and I was always surprised to see that Kameradschaft had never made it's way to DVD. Two true masterpieces not to be missed.

It's excellent news from Masters of Cinema and a release I'm looking forward to.

Kameradschaft was on a German DVD from Universum without English subtitles, I got it several years ago in a kick of picking up some international releases, and was able to follow it with my mediocre German skills and better French. Looks like it's now out if print and starts from €30 used on amazon.de. Good to see an English friendly release and a new master.

Pabst's silent DIE LIEBE DER JEANNE NEY was a welcome inclusion at the Kennington Bioscope weekend this month. Also enjoyed seeing The 3Penny Opera (again) over Christmas, shared with my left-leaning parents!

I've got his Don Quixote on DVD from Image awaiting me and now moved to the top of the 'to Watch' pile!

Was Pabst considered a specialist in multi-language film production? The Quixote and 3Penny DVDs present 2 versions each, and Kameradschaft is bilingual in its original presentation.

"Westfront 1918" and "Kameradshaft" have been broadcast several times by TCM in the USA, and many people have recorded them. TCM occasionally shows Pabst's lone Hollywood film, "A Modern Hero"(1934) with Richard Barthelmess.

I was very excited to see these about to be released; I'm working on a project on the history of subtitling and these have a really interesting translation history in the early 30s. I'd be extremely interested to be in touch with anybody who has a recording of a TCM broadcast of Westfront 1918.

A very fine film - I've also wondered why it has not seen a wide release. It has come and gone from YouTube over the years (sometimes with expurgated scenes included and sometimes not), but my copy was taped off SBS Television in Australia nearly twenty years ago. There was a much inferior remake produced in the 1950s, perhaps there is a copyright issue?

There is also a Spanish Version (Muchachas En Uniforme 1951) with Irasema Dilián which has not seem to be shown/released since its premiere that I am aware of. I used to have the German film Mädchen in Uniform on VHS by Nelson/Media, which I thought it was quite good.
