Great film.... Three old ladies control a coal-mining town but don't have the money to rebuild after it starts to collapse. Enter younger brother and his troublesome secretary (Nova Pilbeam). Great Gothic fun.sepiatone wrote:with questionable copyright status "The Three Weird Sisters"(1947) will be removed August 21 2017

They made no less than 6 attempts to kill poor Nova Pilbeam. No wonder she retired shortly after this film.

Had Hitchcock stayed in England, would Pilbeam have had a bigger career or continued her career?

THE THREE WEIRD SISTERS is not exactly "unseen". It was available on DVD for over a decade (Sinister Cinema used to carry it), and has even turned up on some of those TV channels that specialize in P.D. films. You can still find copies on eBay.

This 24 or 48 hours business is new after so many British films(UIS too for that matter) from all eras have been on YT for a long time. I missed that and yes someone should put it on Archive.org. This week another source put the rare on disc The Great Mr Handel(UK 1942 Technicolor) this week for 48 hours but in this case I have followed the blog this info came from and I was able to download immediately I saw the link. I have disced it and watched it soon after. A little heavy for some but I liked it. Big production when bombs are raining on top of you day and night at that time.

Using the code-cracking skills learned while working at Bletchley during WW2 and after hours of painstaking study here's my decipherment.Donald Binks wrote:******* ?wingate wrote:Apparently Selznick wanted herfor Rebecca but Hitchcock dis ont.

Just kidding, Mr Binks. I realize you weren't seriously asking but were just voicing your disapproval oif such a garbled post.Apparently Selznick wanted her for Rebecca but Hitchcock did not.

What's Great about it,,it is very dull.Even Lawson can't illuminate it.

It's a varying mileage, WIngate. For me, except for Lawson and Petrie, the performances are strangely inept and that wrecks a picture that is visually and musically gorgeous.

Poor Elizabeth Allan, RETURNED to Britain for the war, but it had more to do with Mr. Mayer than Mr. Hitler.

The Three Weird Sisters remains on YouTube, and the performances by the older ladies are fun, but I don't think this one will stick in my head very long. The plot was crackers, but not as memorably bizarre as a lot of the Gainsborough Gothic.

Isn't that Handel film sold on amazon anyway? From the surrounding mystery - only temporarily on youtube - I thought it was rarer than that.
