Huffington Post: Best Film Books of 2017
I have a new piece on Huffington Post, my annual look at some of the film books released this year. Warning, this list contains not only books related to silent film, but also pre-code films and talkies!

On a pedantic note the Fox biog is not released till next year.
As a matter of interest is there a worthwhile biog of Carl Laemmle. There's a bit about him in Guest Parking 2 but I cannot find a full recent biog of him.Is he that forgotten?

I came a cross the Fox bio at our local Barnes and Noble about a week and a half ago. It's very interesting and is on my Christmas wish list.

Another book about to be published is a biography of Miriam Hopkins.Should be interesting. She could be termed difficult .

I'd add the Chaplin/Disney Archives and The Art of the Hollywood Backdrop. Pictures count too!
Edit: Just looked and those are too old. What are the best picture books from this year?

Thanks for the sweet note about my book, Thomas!
Regarding the Maltin book, I feel a caveat should be noted. This is not a new book: it is the same book as his swan song 2015 edition of his movie guide, retitled and with a new introduction. I was on the verge of buying it the other day when I decided to read that introduction -- at least he was open and honest about it.

In regards to a Carl Laemmle book, a good one long out of print is The Life And Adventures Of Carl Laemmle by John Drinkwater. Can be found on the used market but yes a newer book would be very welcome.
