It's a Peter Jackson film, it figures there will be an Extended Version (like LOTR, Hobbit, King Kong).

Maybe it'll have a sequel too, just like the war did.

For those who haven't seen this, or wish to see it again, Manhattan's Spectrum is offering this on channel 100 for free.

Bob, you sound like the announcer for WOR Channel 9's Million Dollar Movie.

Seems more interesting as an historical document than as an artistic expression, but still interesting.

I always preferred the Late Show because it ran with "Syncopated Clock", but for your viewing pleasure....

What he should do now is film The Guns of August, which covers just the first month of the war... as a trilogy.

Attended a viewing this weekend and was entranced. Documentary Director Peter Jackson utilizes an opening technique that mimics The Wizard of Oz 1939, wherein the film changes from black and white to full color once the journey gets underway. In this documentary, the journey is the war that follows the call to arms. But the entrancing features don't end with the clean-up and colorization: the added sound effects and vocals demonstrate remarkable foley work, the end result of which appears to be realistic ambient sound and human voices.

Above and beyond the technical histrionics, these brutal film records of the horror of a battlefield ravage your senses to a degree that would turn any warmonger into a pacifist. As a representation of a record, They Shall Not Grow Old takes you into the front lines in a way that only a veteran could previously represent.

This is why Austria's Karl I was maligned in his day, but acknowledged & appreciated by later generations. He was the only leader who had spent time on REAL battlefields,& when he realized Austria could no longer hope for victory, his goal was to end it ..... No matter how ...... To save lives.

If you enjoyed this, and have a lot of time on your hands, I recommend Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast about the First World War, Blueprint for Armageddon, which goes into the causes, campaigns and aftermath of the conflict in quite some detail.

Just to clarify... I'm still not sure if the "extended version" referred to in the above linked articles means that an additional 30 minutes is added to the theatrical film itself, or if they're just referencing the mini documentary that was shown in theaters immediately following the screenings. I know that the mini doc is included in the blu-ray release...
