Detroit, MI "Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers" showings

Post by Darren Nemeth » Thu Nov 15, 2018 9:14 pm

Cinema Detroit is showing selections from the upcoming Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers boxed DVD / BluRay boxed set.

This is a rare opportunity to see films from the 1910s on a screen other than your own. And to see the new restorations before most everyone else does.

Tonight they showed a sampling of Alice Guy-Blache titles and this weekend it is Mable Normand. I attached their schedule below.

If a local small-audience cinema society wanted to show some of these, does anyone know how they would go about it? (They never have unauthorized screenings, and always deal with the appropriate distributors.)

I think you need to contact Kino from their website. They do bookings like this.

I'll put a bee in their bonnet to do so. They just showed The Great Buster, but I think that film has a Canadian distributor (and I think they primarily deal with Canadian distributors), I don't think they went directly to Cohen Films for that one.
