Noir Archive Vol 1

Post by bigshot » Wed Apr 24, 2019 3:11 pm

I received this yesterday and gave it a quick check. The transfers are great. Three blu-rays with nine Columbia features...

Address Unknown (1944)
Escape in the Fog (1945)
The Guilt of Janet James (1947)
The Black Book (aka The Reign of Terror) (1949)
Johnny Allegro (1949); 711 Ocean Drive (1950)
711 Ocean Drive (1950)
The Killer That Stalked New York (1950)
Assignment Paris (1952)
The Miami Story (1954)

They've announced two more boxes to be released over the next few months. Worth picking up and the price is right too.

Are these from Mill Creek? They've been putting out some great no-frills blu-rays using Columbia titles lately. Imagine my surprise at finding The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T for under $10 in a Wal-Mart blu-ray bin. They've also done some decent reissues of Hammer titles, some double feature blu-rays well worth the $8.99 or so.

EDIT: Oldies.com says they're from Kit Parker Films. Either way, very tempting.

Fun set, I think I've already got 5 Against the House in one of those Columbia Noir sets, and I have a MOD DVD of Spin a Dark Web (and the great one-sheet for it is hanging on my wall above my desk). Don't mind upgrading that latter title.

Vol. 3 has more repeats for me, but still enough new-to-me titles to make it worthwhile.

The Crimson Kimono
The Lineup
The Shadow in the Window
The Long Haul
Pickup Alley
The Tijuana Story
She Played with Fire
The Case Against Brooklyn
Man on a String

The Volume 1 case and disc menus are all branded Mill Creek, but the back cover has the line "Complied in collaboration with Kit Parker Films"
