Remembering Lya De Putti

Post by rockynelson » Fri Nov 22, 2019 1:56 am

This Novemebver 27 marks the 88th anniversay of actress Lya De Putti's tragic death. Lya was a Hungarian actress who had some success playing a vamp during the 1920s but her thick accent ruined her career. She died at the young age of thirty-four after a bone became lodged in her throat.

Lya was a beautiful and talented actress who should not be forgotten. You can learn more about her at

Lya is quite prominent in my 1926 Paramount Pictures release calendar. She was in D.W. Griffith's The Sorrows of Satan and this now-lost Herbert Brenon film (also known as Fate Gave Me 20 Cents, for those markets where blasphemy was a concern).

I was always happy to hear Sally Bowles (as played by Liza Minelli in CABARET) talk about her with envy....
