I'm proud to announce that this year's Silent Film Benefit Calendar proceeds are going to Lobster Films/Blackhawk Films, to support the restoration of the Laurel and Hardy silent short comedy Duck Soup (1927).
Not to be confused with the later Marx Brothers film with the same name, Duck Soup was an early collaboration that (like Do Detectives Think) featured both of the boys, but not in their later familiar characters of Stan and Ollie. They are hobos on the run, who pose as the owner and the maid at a vacant mansion.
Long considered lost, a 9.5mm print was found in 1974. This restoration is being done from a more recently discovered pristine 35mm print now at the BFI.
By happy coincidence, the December image in the 2020 Silent Film Benefit Calendar features Laurel and Hardy with their lap dogs.
If you'd like to support the project, follow this link to the order page to get yours, or navigate there from the Mont Alto home page.
As of this morning, the project has raised $1166 towards the goal. If you want to make a larger contribution, feel free to over-pay for the calendar and I'll pass 100% of the overage along to the project.

I already have your delightful new calendar. Great work. So, can I still donate for the preservation of DUCK SOUP? If so, how should I proceed? By the way, too bad there were no submissions or no room for a photo of Nell Shipman with one of her many animal buddies. See, for example, https://www.indiewire.com/2017/11/nell- ... 201895326/ or https://www.tiff.net/the-review/forever ... ds-country. I LOVE that woman.
