online: Lost US films of the 1910s, June 10th

Coming to you from London, on a special code share with Amsterdam, the next episode of the Kennington Bioscope's livestreamed series features lost American films from Reliance, Vitagraph and Kalem, with piano performances by the KB's regular musicians and hosting from Michelle Facey, plus footage of the collection of cinema equipment and memorabilia at the Cinema Museum in Kennington, London, our home base. All free on YouTube!

The programme is made up of a couple of dramas and a comedy, produced in the US but not known to survive in their American versions. EYE Filmmuseum in the Netherlands has Dutch titled prints, which we've newly subtitled in English for the KBTV screening. We've called the episode 'Lies, Disguise, Deceit (and Dance)' to give an idea of the kind of films we've chosen!

We'd love to see you join us at https://www.youtube.com/kenningtonbioscope, where there will be a chatbox during the broadcast that people have enjoyed during the previous shows. The show will be live on June 10th at 19:30 BST (11.30am on the US West Coast, 2.30pm on the East Coast; 20:30 in mainland Europe), and will remain available after the live broadcast, as we know that daytime in North America and early morning in Australia won't be convenient for everyone. You can even go to YouTube right now and set a reminder for the live show!

Kennington Bioscope's live 'KBTV' broadcast returns, free on YouTube, with short silent films on a theme of 'Lies, disguise, deceit (and dance)' for this edition! Including three US narrative films, newly subtitled to make them accessible in English again after more than 100 years. Join us on June 10th at 19:30 BST (UTC+1, 20:30 CEST) at https://www.youtube.com/kenningtonbioscope
While you're waiting, please explore the channel and any of our previous broadcasts and premieres!

Hosted by film historian Michelle Facey, with piano performances by John Sweeney, Cyrus Gabrysch and Costas Fotopoulos, joining the online show for the first time.

The programme includes:
The Lie (Reliance, 1915) 2 reel drama, a beautifully photographed tale of jealousy and deceit in a small fishing community. With Adoni Fovieri, William Hinckley, Joseph Singleton.
Cutey Plays Detective (Vitagraph, 1913) 2 reel comedy in which a young man uses his amateur thespian experience to get the dirt on a love rival. With Wally Van, Tom Powers, Courtenay Foote, Louise Beaudet, Zena Keefe. Directed by Larry Trimble
The Girl Detective (Kalem, 1915). 3 reel drama, a standalone installment of a series starring Ruth Roland as a "society girl" working as a special investigator with the police. This installment is called 'The Mystery of the Tea Dansant'. Directed by James W. Horne.

Films generously supplied by the EYE Filmmuseum, Amsterdam, including items from their Jean Desmet collection; with our deep gratitude again to curator Elif Rongen-Kaynakçi, without whom this show would not have been possible.
Thanks as always to the Kennington Bioscope committee and friends, for their support and promotion of the show.

We had a great time with the show, and thanks everyone who tuned in and joined us on the chat box. We added another short comedy to the programme, 'Oh, You Ragtime!', to get the show off to a fun start! The replay's available now at the above link for anyone who wants to catch up or watch again.
