There were a few other North Dakota connections to the movies that the article left out. Long-time character actor Carl Stockdale was born in a Minnesota town, but lived for a time in Grand Forks, ND (a fact noted in some local newspaper ads in the mid-1910s). A now-deceased friend of mine had collected info on several old western actors originally from North Dakota, whose names I can't recall at the moment, other than Leroy Mason.
Unfortunately the article you link to is no longer accessible on line without a paid subscription, but I don't recall it mentioning Virginia Bruce. While she was born in Minneapolis, she grew up in Fargo (you'd think the Fargo Forum, of all papers, would have been aware of that) and local movie ads from the early 1930s sometimes acclaimed her as "North Dakota's Own."
