Filmoteca is back tomorrow after a year and half

Post by radiotelefonia » Fri Sep 03, 2021 11:45 pm

I really prefer the Filmoteca broadcasts from Argentina far more than TCM, even if they may not have access to all the films that they want due to copyright restrictions. The show has had an international impact that no other dealing with archival films ever had, and even people beyond me have posted here things from their YouTube channel (which is going to continue).

The show was cancelled a year and a half ago with a coronavirus excuse to hide the fact that the previous administration of the Argentina's state television channel didn't like them and replaced them with "restored" recordings of domestic sport events that nobody wanted to see again.

The new administration of the channel managed to bring Filmoteca back on the air but since this was resolved later in the year, they will start on late night on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday) with the intention to return to their tradional Monday to Friday schedule at late time, which allows them to overcome content restrictions involving possible younger viewers.

As it always happens, the show will stream for free on the TV station website (Televisión Pública Argentina) and I'll try to watch them, although I have been preferring what they have presented on YouTube better.

Here is an article, of many available, about this in Spanish.
