How Hollywood Gets Fire Sprinklers Wrong…

Don’t be fooled by Hollywood or the media’s myths about fire sprinklers. This site attempts to provide the most complete documentation of movies, TV shows, TV commercials, and other media improperly depicting the function and operation of fire detection and suppression systems on the web.
Five common fire sprinkler myths repeated by Hollywood are:

Myth #1: Pulling a fire alarm activates the fire sprinklers.
Myth #2: All sprinklers activate simultaneously.
Myth #3: Lighters/open flames activate the fire sprinklers (often from many feet away and after only a few seconds).
Myth #4: Fire sprinklers can be activated via the internet or some other magic button.
Myth #5: Smoke alone can activate the fire sprinklers.

The list and videos provided below are meant to be used for educational purposes. A key to the error codes is listed below the table.

The list and links to the YouTube film clips are at the above web site.

If only we could find a film in which a Murphy Bed sparks a fire, we'd strike Nitrateville gold!

You'd have to have Lillian Gish sitting on the bed kissing birds before Snitz Edwards accidentally starts the fire.

The only accurate sprinkler system I've seen in a vintage film is demonstrated by Bess Flowers in A Plumbing We Will Go (1940). According to this film, all you need to do is:
1) Have Howard, Howard, and Fine redo your plumbing system.
2) Turn on your new 4-D television set for your guests.
3) Get the channel with a continuous video feed of Niagara Falls.
4) Stand back.

Damn you beat me to it.

OK with a squirrel that also starred in Gone with the wind so the street named after it has been renamed.
In silent film, no-one can hear you scream.

This is nøt å signåture.™

So, the squirrel's name was Sherman. Mystery solved.
