Snub Pollard in "Its a Gift" - HD?

Post by murnaumagic » Tue May 17, 2022 2:47 am

Hi Folks,
I am in search of copy of Snub Pollards "Its a Gift" in the best possible quality - preferably on HD-Bluray or for HD-Download. (On Youtube there are only copies in inferior quality.)
If there is no HD version available I would go for the best DVD or look for the best edition of Robert Youngston "When Comedy was King" (which features an excerpt from "Its a Gift"). But which edition offers the best picture quality?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Tom :D

I believe it’s on The Slapstick Encyclopedia, which is on DVD, though transferred with early technology so not as sharp as it could be. The Blackhawk company is still around, so if you need a high-res version for a theatrical performance, it may be worthwhile contacting them about licensing an HD transfer if they have one.

The reviews of the 2017 restoration When Comedy Was King mention that it's a quality transfer (to DVD), but I doubt it's much better than what you can already find on YouTube. https://www.amazon.com/When-Comedy-Was- ... B01MFX85QA

I'm not finding any Blu-ray releases of the short.

Thank you very much anyway for your kind hints. With no blu-ray available I will have to wait for a new good transfer. Dropping in here from time will surely alarm me when it will released hopefully soon.
Thanks again for your answers
and best wishes from Berlin (Germany)

Serge Bromberg's Lobster Films (Paris) has a high-def transfer of this comedy short. Lobster may not have released it on home video, but it is certainly available for screenings. You might try contacting him.
