I lived in North Hollywood in the early 80's. One day I stumbled on the old Variety Arts Center downtown and a nice old gentleman, who noticed me rubbernecking, politely showed me around. There were straw hats and canes in glass enclosures, a lot of vaudeville memorabilia - including one of Field's trick pool tables he used on stage. Keaton's widow Eleanor happened to be visiting and we were introduced.
All in all it was a nice day. One of my earliest memories of LA.
All that followed was disillusionment, despair and a bad case of the runs.

Raymond Griffith died at the Masquers' Club in 1957. He choked on a piece of food he was eating, and the Heimlich Maneuver had not been invented yet.
