Could this be the same guy (around the 4:40 mark)? The IMDb credits him as Maynard Holmes. Otherwise, I'll just keep looking . . .
Maynard Holmes...yes I know I've seen him in several other 1930's films...DANCING LADY comes to mind quickest. But I do not think he's the same guy as in the FOOTLIGHT PARADE scene. There is a resemblance, but no, I don't think he's the guy.
And he's a stitch as Kenneth, Alison Skipworth's "gunsel" in SATAN MET A LADY, making him the only actor to play a role also done by Dwight Frye and Elisha Cook, Jr.

Saw it at a film festival last year on the big screen, and I have never heard an audience laugh so much. Aline McMahon had that audience in the palm of her hand. Great to see a very diverse crowd showing up for the film.

I wouldn't mess with that ending for the world. That dramatic second after Joan Blondell hits the last note and the "Forgotten Man" number ends, and then "The End" zooms up to the screen....that is great stuff...so powerful. (Dick Powell using a can opener on Ruby Keeler's costume would not have had quite the same punch).

As for Rogers...I love her in her 30s RKO period. She is hilarious in FLYING DOWN TO RIO and ROBERTA. After the 30s...well...she turned very self-conscious and "actressy." If I only ever saw her in BLACK WIDOW and MONKEY BUSINESS I would wonder how on earth she ever became a movie star.

Was the film ever previewed with the numbers reversed , ie. as they appear in the screenplay?
