A Claudette Colbert set from Universal in November

Post by Harold Aherne » Tue Jul 28, 2009 3:29 pm

Universal is releasing a 3-disc set of six Claudette Colbert films on 3 November, most new to home video:

Three-Cornered Moon (33)
Maid of Salem (37)
I Met Him in Paris (37)
Bluebeard's Eighth Wife (38)
No Time for Love (43)
The Egg and I (47)

Details here. I was hoping for more of her early rarities, like A Hole in the Wall or Manslaughter, but this is a good selection and the first three titles haven't been seen that often, at least in recent years.

Especially since EGG AND I is a double-dip, having already appeared in the first MA & PA KETTLE set.

Hopefully they are saving these and others (like Honor Among Lovers, The Wiser Sex and Secrets of Secretary) for a another volume of Pre-Code films.

This is a definite buy for me with Bluebeard's Eighth Wife. I haven't seen Claudette give a bad performance yet and am sure I will enjoy the others as well. I hope His Woman, another she did with Gary Cooper, will eventually see the light of day, maybe in a pre-code set.

I'm so glad to see Universal putting out so many great Paramount films - keep 'em coming!!
